For the love of the game

I started playing soccer when I was 4, and spent the next 14 years playing in different leagues and for different teams, in and out of school.  I’ve always thought soccer was undervalued as a professional sport in the US, which I’ve always found to be frustrating and irritating.  However, I’ve learned in the past couple of years that there are more fans out there than I thought, and in the past couple of weeks I’ve enjoyed watching the Women’s World Cup with a number of different people.

Every year around this time I start smelling fresh cut grass and wish that I was on the field with my team.  Since that’s not possible as we are all dispersed throughout the country, I figured I could channel my love for the sport in a different way.

One of the best things about the sport is its worldwide presence.  I love traveling and seeing how other countries show their love for their teams.  Soccer is the perfect game; it is the world’s sport.

My goal?  Follow the sport.  Why a blog?  I figure it will give me an outlet for my thoughts and keep me motivated to keep watching.

We’ll see how it goes, and maybe I’ll get a reader or two along the way.
